Derek Sloan, University of St. Andrews, United Kingdom

Derek Sloan, MD, PhD, is a reader and consultant in infectious diseases at the school of Medicine at St. Andrews University. He has worked as clinician in both high- and low-income countries, accruing extensive experience in the treatment of patients with complex infections, particularly tuberculosis (TB) and Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV).


Hanif Esmail, University College London, United Kingdom
Hanif Esmail, MD, PhD, is a Clinical Associate Professor at University College London, MRC Clinical Trials Unit and Institute for Global Health. He is a consultant in Infectious Diseases at the Hospital for Tropical Diseases and the North Central London TB Service. He has a particular academic interest in TB natural history, asymptomatic TB and the implications for TB screening and a focus on the development of innovative clinical trials.  He is leading the RADIO-TB trial evaluating the optimal approach to managing bacteriologically unconfirmed TB identified through screening.

Alberto García-Basteiro, ISGlobal, Spain

Alberto García-Basteiro, MD, PhD, works as Assistant Research Professor at the Barcelona Institute for Global Health, ISGlobal in Barcelona, Spain and as the coordinator of the TB research unit at the Centro de Investigação em Saúde de Manhiça (CISM), Mozambique. At present, he is overseeing several large-scale epidemiological studies, conducting extensive evaluations of new diagnostic tools, and leading various clinical drug trials in tuberculosis.
